DEATH OF TWO ■ Two men were killed by lightning on January-30 in the course of the' storm which extended oyer 'the eastern part of Xe,w South Wales. At Candelo, in .the South Coast' district, Joseph'-Lucas, aged 24, was struck by, lightning while working in a ; paddock on the property of Mr B. J. Collins. He was; thrown to the ground. John George Edwin Avery, aged 30, a single, man, was killed: by . lightning at mid-day in a severe storm jn Canberra. Mr Avery, who lived with his father and his sister, on a farm property about seven miles from U Parliament House, was working with a horse-drawn lucerne, mower a short distance from their house. When the storm, began he started'for home. He did not reach the house, and his sister went to look for him. She found hia, body lying near a gate. The clothing had been torn from his back, and there were marks ,on his body. The horse attached to the mower was grazing quietly near by. A man and several children at Gberon were effected by shock when a tree : near them was. struck. They were standing in the show ground The force of the explosion threw-them to .the ground. .
