(Received March 5, at .8 p.m.) * The Daily Chronicle’s special investigator says; “ Extreme brutality continues in most Austrian prisons, which, are filled with 6000 Social Democrats. Hundreds have been beaten with rubber truncheons until they agreed to give evidence against the leaders in the approaching trials. Others have been bayoneted in underground cells. The Heimwehr, under orders from Major Fey and Prince Starhemberg, ruthlessly searched workers’ houses and threatened to outrage women, while they terrorised children and knocked ou„ suspects’ teeth with rifle barrels. As a result worker* are joining the Nazis Wholesale, many simply in a spirit of revenge and determined to be in at the death.* GIGANTIC TRADES UNION. ALL WAGE EARNERS GROUPED. VIENNA, March 4. (Received March 5, at 8 p.m.) Cabinet has approved of a draft creating a comprehensive trades union under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Welfare,' grouping all privately employed wage earners, but excluding civil servants and Federal railway employees. It will be empowered to conclude collective agreements, initiate a settlement of collective disputes, and safeguard the interests of members.
