COST OF LIVING IN THE COUNTRY
to the editor. Sir,—“Do As You Would Be Done By” would like to make people believe that the country stores are making a fortune out of the poor farmers, I can assure you, Sir* that such is far from the ease. Your correspondent is evidently one of those who do not support the local store. Probably he rushes off to town when he has a few pounds, and when he wants credit for six or twelve months he bestows his patronage on the local store. . This is not the practice of one farmer, but of many, and yet they expect to be supplied on credit in the country at cash prices in town. I would like to know where your correspondent can get oatmeal at 4s 3d while the wholesale price is .£2l per ton. As he is such a clever individual it is evident he is wasting his time as a farmer, and should immediately start a country store and cive the farmers and others the benefit of his wonderful capacity for getting. bargains. If he did so lam sure he would be a wiser and more reasonable man at the end of 12 months. I am, etc., Country Storekeeper.
