ABORIGINES' PLUCK

CROCODILE-INFESTED RIVER SWUM.

Australian papers report that A. Lax - - sen, a prospector, was recently found starving by a party of aborigines, who carried him 47 miles from Ebagoolah Field, Northern Queensland, to Port Stewart, swimming with him in a stretcher across flooded rivers, one of which was known to be infested with crocodiles. From Port Stewart Larsen was taken by the steamer Wandana to Cooktown, where he was placed in hospital. An officer of the Wandana said that when Larsen was picked up at Port Stewart he was merely a fleshloss body in which the spark of life was barely flickering. Larsen’s condition was pitiable, and his clothing had to bo cut away from his body. Flooded rivers apparently prevented him obtaining supplies.
