OTAGO REGATTA
. ; THE FIXTURE POSTPONED Owing to the strong noythreast wind and heavy sea, in the Upper Harbour the Otago Rowing Association’s annual regatta could not be held on Saturday afternoon. ■ The conditions were very boisterous w'hcn the first race was timed to start, and the officials, realising that rowing was impossible, decided to suspend the programme until 5 p.m. Another meeting was held at that hour, and after some deliberation it was decided that the regatta should be definitely postponed until this evening. If the conditions arc then favourable, the first ractwill start at 6.20 p.m,, and an endeavour will be made to row off as many events as possible. Should it not be possib’e to complete the programme, the remaining events will be rowed to-morrow evening. Among the entries for several races were crews from the Oamaru Boating Club, but as the oarsmen had to return home yesterday they will not compete this evening. On Thursday evening, starting at f o’clock, a race between Upper and Lower Harbour cight-oar crews will be hold. The race will be held on the Upper Harbour, and the selectors will be present. After the race a meeting of the Otaco Rowing Association will be bold to select the eight-oar crew to represent the province in the championship race at Wellington on Easter Saturday. The personnel of this crew will be announced at the conclusion of the meeting.
