Many leading figures in the art world are interested in the scheme for forming an Honourable Company of Craftsmen, which was adopted by a meeting at the Royal Society of Arts in Loudon recently. Craftsmen from all over the country attended the meeting, and were enthusiastic about the project. During recent years handicrafts of various kinds have been enjoying at least a modified revival, and it will be one of the objects of the new company to encourage this development, and, at the same time, see that the craftsman is not exploited unfairly by middlemen. Perhaps naturally, craftsmen dislike modern mass production methods (says a London newspaper), while other people sometimes sneer at what they call this " arty and crafty nonsense." But mass production is likely to give better results if a vigorous individual craftsman ship exists alongside it, and there are many ways in which the two can be complementary. Don't merely ask for coal—demand Kaitangata—the best. —Advt.
