LEGHORN TRAGEDY

THE RAILWAY CRASH RECOVERY OF THE BODIES (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ROME, February 21. More bodies, including those of several women, have been removed from the wreckage of the rail car. The dead now total 34 out of 48 passengers in the rail car. The large number of deaths was chiefly due to many people standing on the forward platform behind the engine being sprayed by a liquid which immediately ignited when the collision burst the fuel tank. Nearly all the dead were found with the forearm covering the face as a protection against the flames. A previous message stated: Sixteen people were killed and 11 injured at Leghorn when a railway motor coach crashed into a train crowded with holiday makers. It appears that the driver of the coach inexplicably left the station before the train arrived there, and ignored subsequent whistles and signals. Speeding at 75 miles an hour round a curve the coach met the train head on. The coach was set on fire and destroyed. All those killed were passengers in the coach, though several passengers in the train were injured in the panic.
