Triumph Lodge, No. 9, held ita fortnightly meeting on Thursday last. W.M. Bro. James Weir presided, and was ably assisted by I.P.M. Bro. Perrin, Chaplain P.M. Bro. Barr, and D.M. act., Bro. G. Hellyer, P.M. There was a large attendance of membere and visitors from Valley True Blue, No.. 11, Loyal Excelsior, and Ladies' Pride of the Valley, No. 1 lodges. A ballot was.taken for a candidate, and the initiation ceremony was conducted by the W.M., BrOf.-Weir, who was assisted by his past masters. Correspondence was received from No. 4 District Depot of the Unemployed Social Committee, with a request to consider holding a hard-up social to assist the funds of the depot. After consideration it was decided to hand the letter over to the lodge Social Committee to report at next meeting. An invitation to church service was accepted from L.O.L. No. 58, Port Chalmers, P.M.'e Bros. G. Hellyer, A. Devlin, G. Perrin, and A. Hodges were appointed juvenile supermtendente. P.M. Bro. Hellyer and P.G.M. Bro. Devlin conveyed greetings from the Star of Southland Lodge.! A sociaj hour was spent in cards after the closing oi the lodVie.
A special meeting of Star of Oamaru was held on February 10 for the purpose of installing the newly-elected officere. The W.G.M., Bro. Harvey, members of the Grand Executive, and representatives from all the Dunedin lodges were present. W.M. Bro. Gilchrist presided over the meeting and welcomed the visitors. The installing officer (W.G.M. Bro. Harvey) assisted by Grand Trustees Bros. Hellyer and Sutherland, installed the following officers:—W.M., Bro. S. M'Neil; D.M., Bro. D. Watt; 1.P.M., Bro. Gilchrist; sec, Bro. Reynolds; treas., Bro. Main; chap., Bro. Stock; S.E., Bro. Whitton; J.E., Bro. Hill; 1.G., Bro. Rudduck. After the installation the W.G.M. wished the newly-elected officers a happy and prosperous year of office. P.G.M. Bro. Devlin, G. Chap. Bro. Christie. G. Trustees Bros. Sutherland and Hellyer also added their congratulations. W. MistSis. Morgan, of Pride of Valley Ladies, PJVI. Bro. Madden, of No. 11, W.M. Bro. Weir, of No. 9, and Treas. Bro. Robson, of No. 41, conveyed greetings" and best wishes from their respective lodges. W.M. Bro. M'Neil responded on behalf of Star of Oamaru. I.P.M. Bro. Gilchrist stated that he hoped to have lady and juvenile members well established by next year. P.M. Bro. Frith addressed the members in his humorous style and all enjoyed his remarks. The meeting was closed to permit of a dance being held. The music for the dance was sup- . plied by the Triumph Band, and was very much appreciated by all present. The fortnightly meeting of Valley True Blue Lodge, held in the Orange Hall on February 13, was presided over by W.M.. Bro. Turner, who was supported by his officers. P.M. Bro. Drysdale, W.M. Bro. Turner, and D.M. Bro. Reid were appointed delegates to the combined lodges' Ball Committee. After sick pay had been passed the lodge was adjourned, ami a very enjoyable social and dance was held. Ttems- were rendered by Mrs Searle, Bro. Jackson, and an instrumental trio consisting of Messrs Laurie. Incrocci. and Sutherland. A " lucky spot" wall/, was won by Bro. Strachan. and Sis. Smith. Bro. Campbell and Bro. Reid were M.C.'s and Mr Hargreaves was a very efficient pianist for the evening. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41. was held on Wednesday evening, when W.M. Bro. G. M. Taylor presided, being assisted by I.P.M. Bro. Lindsay and Chaplain Bro. H. A. Christie. There was a good attendance of members. Before commencing the business of the evening, the W.M. referred to the bereavements suffered by members since the last meeting, and a motion of sympathy was conveyed to the relatives. Correspondence was received iu connection with the P.A. Ball, and representatives were appointed by the committee. Bro. Christie, G.C., and Bro. James Lindsay, G.D.M., installed ( Bro. G. Davies into the office of D.M. The sick report was received and sick pay was passed for payment. P.G.M. Bro. Lumley was welcomed by the W.M. and gave a resume of the work of the U.F.S. Dispensary. One proposition for membership was received. A committee was set Tip to arrange a cricket match with the A.O.F. At the close of the meeting a social hour was spent.
