THE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

The Green Island Institute held ita first meeting of the year on Tuesday evening. The president (Mrs Smellie) pre-, sided over a large attendance of members. Nominations for the new committee were received. The roll call, "Experiences During the Holidays," was well responded to. The hostesses. for the evening were the retiring committee. The monthly meeting of the Roxburgh Institute was held on February 14, when about 50 members and guests were present. Mrs Craig (president) took the members to Dr Gilmour's garage to. see the large pile of tins of jam made by the Women's Institute organisation for the Returned Soldiers' Association, Dunedin, this season. There were over 500 101 b tins and more yet to come., Mies Co'wles, a visitor, gave an interesting talk on "Some Aspects of Life in India at Present." Both she and Miss Raper, who sang, were" thanked heartily. The hostesses were Mesdames Craig, J. W. Smith, Dingwall, and Matheson. * * if. The Lovell's Flat Institute held the first meeting for 1934 on Wednesday last, Mrs Boyd occupying the chair. , The roll call, "My Favourite Flower and a Jam Hint," supplied many suggestions for making jam. There were several matters of business to be discussed. It was decided to pay threepence per member to the funds to be forwarded to the provincial treasurer. Nominations were then received for the new committee to be voted . for at the nest meeting. Mrs M'Queen and Miss Slater were hostesses. Before the meeting closed suggestions were made for the forthcoming birthday party, and a committee was set up to see to the amusements on that occasion.
