SWIMMING
MEETING OF CENTRE A meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening at the Municipal Baths, and was attended by Messrs W. H. Matthews (chairman), ,E. G. James, E.G. Stackhouse, E. H.James, .D. Bannatyne, and E. C. Isaacs. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr. R. C; Stackhouse, the new delegate from the Duuedin Club. ',, ' The secretary reported on the proposed tour by Australian swimmers. Although the official invitation had been sent to Australia some time ago, he said, no reply had been received until this week, when ,the New Zealand Council had advised, that Tickle and .Clark would be available, but could not leave Sydney until after Eebruary 23. In view of the number of appearances that would be made at open-air carnivals it was thought that this would he t6o late for a .South Island tour, and the New Zealand Council had advised that the tour would have to be cancelled. It came as a shock when a cablegram was received stating that the swimmers would be .leaving today, but it was decided by the executive that the previous decision to cancel the tour should be adhered to.—The action of the executive was approved. The secretary of the Macandrew Bay Regatta Committee wrote thanking the centre for its support at its regatta.— Received. ~,,,. The New Zealand Council advised that the application of the Kaikorai Club for affiliation-had been granted.—Received. The New Zealand Council wrote advising that it had awarded an honorary association blazer to Mr W. A. Jenkins, president of the Otaao Centre. The secretary of th e .Otago Annual Regatta Committee wrote thanking the centre for its assistance in'■conducting the swimming events at the regatta.— Received.
