NOTES FROM RICCARTON
(Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 17. P. M'Grath took Guarantee and Cup Bearer to Wellington to-night. Guarantee has been working well, and remembering his form when he ran third in the Stewards’ Handicap, he may be prominent down the Trentham six-tur-long track. Cup Bearer, though inclined to give trouble on the track, is a smart galloper, and is in good health. Cleaner, who was to have accompanied tho_ other two, bruised a heel when galloping on Tuesday, and was left at home. C. C. McCarthy left for Trentham tonight with his two horses. Argentic has never been in better health, but Drumfire’s knees have been causing trouble. The Wash dyke trainer, B. H, Brodie, went north to-night with Hot Stun, a useful back sprinter who may race well at Trentham. Locksley, who was also booked for the trip, went lame a tew days ago, so he has been blistered as a preliminary to a spell.
