DRAINAGE BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the Dunedin Drainage Board was held last night, the Mayor (the JRev. E. T. Cox) presiding. The Mayor said that the meeting nad been convened to pass a special report from the Finance Committee. Cr Shacklock, chairman of the Finance Committee, moved the adoption of the report and the passing of a formal resolution in connection with the conversion of loans of the board amounting to £503,000, the details of which had already been published. The conversion would take effect from April 1. The details would be advertised in due course. The report was quite clear and easily understood. The report was adopted and the formal resolution carried. Cr Silverstoue asked permission to put a question to the chairman of the Works Committee in regard to the Wilkie road sewer. Permission was granted, and Cr Silverstone then asked when it was proposed to start the work on the construction of the sewer. Cr Marlow said he was pleased to state that the work had been commenced about a week ago. Six men were at present employed, and at the end of a fortnight another 10 would be engaged. Another seven wou.d shortly 7 after be employed, and by the middle of February he hoped, to have 50 men engaged on the work.
