EXPLOSION IN FACTORY THREE MEN RECEIVE BURNS. (Peb United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 17. Three men received painful and in one ease serious burns in a fire caused by an explosion at the factory of Easton Products, Limited, in the city to-day. Inflammable ingredients of floor polish were being mixed in a tin over a gas jet when a terrific explosion occurred injuring three men in the room and setting fire, to the premises. George E. Easton, aged 44, married, and James Bray, aged 57, married, were badly burned and were taken to hospital. Frank Whitely was burned on the left side of the face and the left hand, blit was able to return to business after being treated. The fire was quickly suppressed. Mr Easton's condition is fairly serious, but that of Mr Bray is not. serious. YOUTH DROWNED IN RIVER (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 17. Tragedy attended a bathing party in the Hutt River last evening, when Patrick John King, aged 17, a grocer’s assistant, of Huia street, Petone, was drowned. It appears that King dived into the river and got into difficulties. His three companions attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. The body was recovered three hours later. TAILOR’S SUDDEN DEATH Alexander Maine Aitkeu, a tailor, aged about G2 years, who carried on business in the Regent Chambers, dropped dead at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. The deceased was a married man with two sons, and lived at 9 Wales street, Bishopscourt. An inquest will be held this morning. MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED As the result of injuries suffered when the motor cycle he was riding collided with a lorry at Burnside, Eric Smellie, single, aged 22, residing with his parents at Princes street, Green Island, was admitted to the Public Hospital at 5.25 p.m. suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg, fractures of the right arm and the left arm, and lacerations of the right hand.
