(Fbom Oub* Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, December 14. LAWN TENNIS. The tournament to decide the holder for the ensuing year of the silver lawn tennis cup which is awarded annually to the beet girl Singles player of the Palmerston District High School wa* held this morning at the Palmerston Club’s courts. _ In the final Miss Edna Philip beat Miss Frances Handcock by nine games to seven after an interesting game. i DRAMATIC OLUB. The Palmerston Dramatic. Club staged an interesting prograirtme of three oneact plays in the Town Hall last night before a fairly large audience. Onethird of the proceeds will go to the Unemployed Christmas, Tree, Fund, onetHird to the Boy Scouts’, Debt Fund, and one-third to the club., The proceedings were opened by the Deputy Mayor (Mr D,, M, Thomson), The first play was "Lantern Light,” by the New Zealand writer Mamie Ingles, and Miss N. Moodie capably filled, the leading role. In the second play, “ Holed In One,” by Claude Radcliffe, Miss M.‘ Capstick and Mr K. Cockburn appeared to advantage.. _ The third play, 11 The Grand Cham’s Diamond,” by Allan Monkhouse, was of a different type, and in this Miss N, Pickett appealed particularly. The settings .'throughout were simple and effective, and' the whole programme was of ah entertaining, nature.
