Burnside, December 13. Fat Cattle.—There were 269 penned, a large yarding with only a few pens of extra prime cattle in evidence. The balance wap of medium , and lighter sorts with a larger proportion of cows- and heifers than has' been the ease for some considerable time. There was no outside competition, and the sale opened with a marked lack of interest, prices for all grades of cattle being down 20s to 25s a head, and in the ease of heavy cOws the drop was greater. Passings ryere frequent. As the sale progressed there was little change until the last race, when extra' prime sorts sold under keener competition, prices recovering for ox beef about 10s per head, but cows and heifers_ were almost unsaleable. The following is the range of prices:—Exti'a prime heavy ox, to £l2 7s 6d; prime heavy, from £8 170 6d to £lO 7s 6d; medium and lighter, from £5 7s 6d to £8 2s fid; extra prime cows and heifers, £4 7s fid to £0 7s fid; lighter sorts. £2 to £3 7s fid. Dairy Cattle.—Forty were yarded. There were no good cows and heifers coming to profit forward, and the sale was a bad one from every point of view. Fat Sheep.—lsoo were penned, the bulk of which number were ewes of all descriptions. A few pens of woolly sheep were still to be seen, but most of the entry was shorn. The proportion of good wethers was small, but these and any good medium wethers sold well at prices from par to Is better than those ruling a ri'eek ago. All ewes were down in price to the extent of 2s to 3s. and even at this lower level little interest was shown in any pens that were either over-prime or too light.
