PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TOURNAMENT , SUCCESSFUL MEETS CONCLUDED The primary schools lawn tennis tournament was concluded at Logan Park on Saturday morning, when semi-finals, section finals, and final in the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and the Doubles Championships were played. The standard of play was good, and competition was keen in all sections. There were 91 pairs in the Doubles Championship, 59 pairs being girls and 32 boys. In the final of the Bovs’ Singles, Sims (Kensington) did not play up to form. Ferguson (Maori Hill) was much too severe, his service being particularly fast for a boy. Both players in the Girls’ Singles showed a good knowledge of courtcraft, but M. Cameron (Normal) was too consistent for her smaller opponent (J. MTntosh (Maori Hill). Three left-hand players took part in the final of the Boys’ Doubles. Myers and Ferguson (Maori Hill) served well, and their set work was up to B Grade standard. Dyhrberg and Hellyer (North-East Harbour) played gamely against two hard hitters. j The combination of the winning pair ' (Clarke and Cameron, Normal) m the final of the Girls’ Doubles proved too strong for Henderson and Salmon (Maori Hill). TARANAKI v. WAIKATO GAME ENDS UNFORTUNATELY. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 10. An outstanding lawn tennis game ended unfortunately when Miss N. Beverley, the top lady player for Waikato, fainted in her match against Mrs R. P. Adams in the Taranaki-Waikato contest, Taranaki won 15 —9. Miss Beverley is regarded as a likely New Zealand champion in the next two or three years. She was the only one in the Dominion to take a set off Miss Joan Hartigan, the Australian champion 1 , in the tour two years ago. Mrs Adams, a New Zealand Singles and Doubles champion, formerly of Wellington, paid a tribute to the remarkable form displayed by Miss Beverley before intense pain from a blistered foot and the heat of the sun caused her to collapse. Miss Beverley will not be allowed to play for a week or two.
