ST. CLAIR BOY SCOUTS

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the St. Clair Group of the Boy Scouts’ Association was held last Friday evening in the Presbyterian Church Schoolroom, the chairman (Mr J. R. Rodgerson) presiding over a fair attendance of members. In moving the of the annual report and balance sheet; -the chairman referred to the past year a$ one of steady progress. Numerically the group was now the second strongest in the metropolitan area, and the numbers were _ steadily increasing. The Cub Pack had increased to such an extent that it was found necessary, owing to the limited room available, to divide the pack into t;vo. This fact further emphasised the pressing necessity of a more suitable hall or meeting place in St. Clair. The balance sheet showed a slight decrease in the receipts for the year, but the group was still in a satisfactory position financially. He commented, however, on the lack of interest on the part of the parents generally, and hoped that more interest would be taken in the ensuing year. Excellent reports were received from the Scout and Cub officers on the work done during the year, ambulance and'eignalling work having received special attention with most gratifying results. A camp had been held at Evansdale at Easter and was a splendid outing for the boys w’ho took part in the four days under canvas. The Rev, Mr M'Dowall seconded the report, which was adopted.

Mr Rodgerson referred to the recent formation of a Divisional Committee composed of a representative from each Parents’* Committee in the Dunedin district, the primary object of which was to secure better co-ordination between the group committees and headquarters and to create ’ closer co-operation between the groups themselves. This committee, functioning properly, should be most helpful in furthering the Scout movement in the Dunedin district. He trusted that the object would receive the whole-hearted support of the various committees. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr J. R. Rodgerson; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. N. Falck; auditor, Mr J. R. Callender; committee—Messrs L. D. Coombs and Dampen, the Rev. Mr M'Downll, Messrs L. C. Calvert, R. C. Love, C. de R. Andrews, J. MacDonald, Staff-sergeant Boult, Dr Dodds, Mr A. Davidson, Mesdames Callender, Dampen, Boult, Chrisp, Coombs, Rodgerson, Myles, Andrews, Davidson. Mr Rodgerson thanked the members for re-electing him as chairman, and also the ladies and gentlemen who had so willing and so generously assisted the group during the past year. He also wished to record his deep appreciation of the sterling work done by Mr Falck as secretary.
