TRANSPORT LICENSING

SITTING OF No. 9 AUTHORITY The W 9 Transport Licensing Authority concluded its Dunedin sittings yesterday, when it was again engaged in hearing applications for passenger and goods licenses. The chairman (Mr A. I. W. Wood) presided, and he had associated with him Messrs J. Preston and W. Blackie. The following passenger service licenses were granted: —W. H. Templeton (Naseby-Ranfurly), Wanaka Motors (Pembroke-Makarora, Pembroke-Queens-town-Pembroke, Pembroke-Niger Hut), R. H. Bryant (Kinloch-Routeburn), Wanaka Motors (Palmerstou-Cromwell), H. E. Furney (Oamaru-Georgetown), A. Clark (Oamaru-Lake Ohau), P. M’Atamney (Paeran-Waipiata). The application of Mr A. Cain for a passenger service license between Naseby and Ranfurly was declined, an application by Hunter’s D.O.T. Motors for a license for a service between Pembroke and Roxburgh being withdrawn. The Red Band Taxi Company and other taxi proprietors of Oamaru made representations to the meeting with rcgard\to the issue of temporary passenger service licenses on race days from Oamaru to Oamaru racecourse.—After lengthy evidence had been heard, the authority decided that on the facts before it traffic to the racecourse could adequately be handled by the existing bus and train services, and that temporary licenses for taxis on race days were neither necessary nor desirable. The Railways Department’s application for a passenger service license between Waipah\ Junction and Edievale was granted. The department’s application was opposed by J. F.' Churston, who applied for a license on his own behalf for the same route.—His application was declined, and Wanaka Motors, Tapauui Branch Motors, Ltd., and Finlayson Bros., who had also requested licenses for this section, withdrew their applications.

T. R. Whitaker and Hunter’s D.O.T. Motors applied for passenger service licenses between Oaraaru and Waitaki Hydro.—lt was explained that these, two services were now co-ordinated, and a license was granted to Hunter’s D.O.T. Motors. An extension of Mrs E. M'Cann’s passenger service license between Tapanni and Tnpanui railway station, until December 18, was granted; an application for a license over this section which was submitted by J. C. Cameron being withdrawn. An application by G. Ross for a goods service license between Skippers and Arrowtown was held over until the next sitting of the authority, ns there was no appearance of the applicant

W. Cook’s application for a passenger service license between Paerau and Waipiath was declined. At the conclusion of the sitting the authority passed a vote of thanks to the City Council for the use of the Council Chamber.
