LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

There was a good attendance of members of the Otago Council of the League of Nations Union at the meeting on Tuesday evening, when a communication from the Dominion Executive was considered. Dr Gibb reported having prepared a manifesto for the Public Questions Committee of the Presbyterian Church. Interest centred on the proposal to establish a New Zealand journal on international affairs to be published by the League of Nations Union in Wellington, to take the place of the London journal Headway. The Otago Council unanimously decided in favour of the British journal in which many articles are contributed by experts. Consideration wag also given to a flysheet issued monthly by the union in Auckland. The matter was left in abeyance for further deliberation, a committee being appointed to suggest bow best the interest can be maintained among those who do not take Headway. From Wellington came a resolution in the form of an appeal to the press of Now Zealand asking it to emphasise the-fact that the peace of the world lay in the increase of international goodwill rather than in growth of armaments with the consequent fear and hatred between nations. The bon. treasurer (Mr Frank Taylor) presented the finance report, which showed that the income still fell short of the required levy for Dominion funds. Miss B. MTntyro offered to organise a bring and buy sale, being supported by Miss Lily Sullivan. The council accepted the offer. The secretary’s report showed a distinct advance and growth. Two study circles were in being and a yoflth group was in process of formation. Six lectures had been given by Mrs Leech. From the headmasters of several primary schools invitations had been received for one of the speakers on League of Nations, and 18 new adherents bad been enrolled since the last meeting of the council.
