TROTTING

. By Sentinel

Entries for tlie Gore Trotting Club’s annual meeting will close on Monday at 5 p.m. • ’ , , Final forfeits for the New Zealand Champion Stakes, to be decided ,at Ashburton on Boxing Day, are due on December 7, at 5 p.m. •It is more than likely that Don Chenault will be reserved for Christmas meetings. His connections are contemplating a trip to Auckland, in which case the gelding may not start at New Brighton next week. Horses likely to be in favour at Ashburton to-day are Real Burton, Young Travis, and Jimmy de Oro. J. J. Kennerley drove Young Travis a mile and a-half at New Brighton on Thursday .morning. He paced in convinc-. ing style and handled the grass track in a’creditable manner. This richly bred gelding is engaged at the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting, where he will have, plenty of supporters.' With Peter Pirate, Peter Junior, and Silver Bingen to battle for him at the Auckland Cup meeting, R. D. Kennerley has a useful trio, each of whom is liable to pick up a stake. Peter Pirate is getting through satisfactory work and is a Cup candidate, but he will meet some very smart horses in the big race. However, he is a. good stayer and must be considered a possibility. Silver Bingen ap’d Peter Junior will be racing against the lesser lights, and both have plenty of speed to compete in their respective classes. , ' _ i,..,The five-year-old stallion Guy Barrister won . Ins first race at Launceston recently with a margin of 72, yards to 1 spiire. Lady ; Barrister, who was, formerly trained by R. B. Berry, was by Logan Pointer- from' Law Chimes, the darn of Jewel Pointer, In 1928 Lady Barrister was •bought by Mr W. Balloch; of Melbourne, when she was in fojfil to Guy Parrish, The foal now known as Guy Barrister was sold by Mr Balloch at his dispersal sale last July. A most attractive programme has been issued for the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting, which will be held on December 26 on the Gore Racing Club’s course. For many years this club has had the *trije> interests of trotting at heart, and by offering good stakes has attracted good class horses to„ the fixture. The principal event is the Gore Cup Handicap, tor ; horses that can do two miles in 4min 45sec or bitter, and carrying stake money to the value of 325sovs.‘ which amount includes' trophies to both the owner and trainer of this winner. ■ Golden Dollar, who is in. the Melrose Trot at Ashburton to-day, is a five-year-old gelding by Rey de Oro from Doraldina, therefore a brother to . a great little mare in Daphne de Oro. Golden Dollar is held on lease from his .breeder, Mrs J-> Westerman,. by C. K. Yateman, of New Brighton. • , Worthy Queen came through her solid campaign at the Metropolitan meeting in capital shape, and the concession a trotter receives in a field of pacers will make her a decided possibility, from a 4.34 mark. She went 4min 28sec at Addington, and all her successes before she came to Addington were registered on grass tracks.

Young Travis, who has given every promise of turning up trumps by. his track displays under J. J. Kennerley,.; at Addington, is engaged in both trotting events at Ashburton (says the Sun), but there is no certainty that he will be asked such a severe question on the day. On breeding, appearance, and his style' of getting over the ground, Young . Travis stands out in the Melrose field like the brightest'beacon oh a dark night, but he may require experience before repeating his track work. . !
