(From Oub Own Correspondent.) OPHIR, December 1. NOVEMBER WEATHER SUMMARY.
The following is the report of the Ophir meteorological station for the month of October, 1933, standard time observed:—
Average reading of barometer at 9 a.m" 30.02 in; highest (November 2), 30,40 in; lowest (November 15), 29.60 in; extreme range, .80in. Mean shade temperature at 9 a.m., 55.5 deg. (October, 53.5 deg.; November, 1932, 58.6 deg.). Highest reading (November 3), 70.6 deg.; lowest (November 6), 44.7 deg. The highest in October was 68.4 deg., and in November, 1932, 72.4 deg. , .'0 '• ‘ : , Shade temperature extremes —Mean maximum, 67.1 deg. (October, 62.3 deg.; November, 1932, ,67.3 deg.). The highest was 80.9 deg. bn November :30; the lowest, 47.7 deg., on November 5. The highest in; October was 78.2 deg.; in November, 1932, 74.0 deg. Mean minimum, (October, 40.4 deg.; November, 1932, 41.9 deg.). The lowest minimum was 25.6 deg. on November 22. The lowest in October was 22.2 deg., and in November, 1932, 28.7 deg. Mean shade temperature for • the month, 53.9 deg.; for October, 51.3 deg. Range of temperature for the month, 26.5 deg.; for October, 21.9 deg., _ ; Grass temperatures: Mean minimum, ■ 30.9d6g.-’ (October 31.3 deg; November, 1932, 33.4deg.The highest was 43;8deg. on November 12, and 13; the lowest. IS.Odeg., on; November 22.- In, October the lowest was ;,10.4deg.; ■in November, 1932, IS.Odeg. The grass 1 temperature fell to 32deg. hhd loWer on 17 mornings; to 30.3 deg. (frost) and. lower on 15 mornings. In October the corresponding numbers of mornings were 17 and 16; in November, 1932, 14 and 13 respectively. Mean dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures and humidity: 9 a.m], dry, 55.5 deg; wet, 50,2deg.-' 3- p.m., dry, 63.6 deg.; wet, 64.2 deg. Mean relative humidity: 9 a.m., 67 per cent.; 3 p.m., 50. d per cent, of saturation. In October the corresponding percentages of saturation were 58 and 51.5; in November, 1932, .49.1 and 42. Average, clearness of sky; 7 a.m., 45 per cent.; 9 a.m., 39 per cent.; 7- p.m., 59 per cent.; 10 p.m., 63 per cent. At 9 a.m. the number of observations . of “clear sky” (cloud 0 to 2) was 8; of' “overcast sky” (cloud 8 to 10), it was ■ls. Wind] recorded at 9 . a.mi: Forces ,B'to 12, nil) forces 4 t0.7,.ni1; calm, 16 days. Daily average of wind forte, .9. Directions: N., nil; N.E., i da'y; E., i day; S.E., nil; S., | day; S.W., 41 days; W., 4 days; N.W., 4 days. - Rainfall; November 4, 45. points; November 5, 56 points; November 6, 1 point;’November 11, 36 points; November 15, 33 points; November 26, 7 points; November 27, 1 point;—total, 179 points on seven days. Average for November in preceding nine years, 151.6 points on 9 days. Total rainfall from January 1 to November 30, 14.88 inches on 89 days. Other phenomena: Gale, nil; snow, nil; snow lying, nil; hail, nil; lightning, nil; thunder, one; fog, nil; mist, one (November 29); smoke haze, 5; hoar frost (9 a.m.), nil; rime, nil; glazed frost, nil. . < ' One snowfall occurred on the night of November 5, when there was a considerable fall above 3200 feet altitude on. the Dun stab Range. At the end of the month very little snow lay about the ridge of the range. i General remarks: A month.of much daytime cloudiness, little wind] and more than average atmospheric humidity. The large amount of rainfall during the former half of the month, with very little frost during that period, promoted an extraordinary and early growth of vegetation. The keen frosts on the mornings of November 22 and 23 again damaged tomato, potato and'marrow crops, besides small fruits and many varieties of flowering plants..
