QUEEN CARNIVAL RAFFLES

TO THE EDITOR. Sis, —I have been waiting patiently for the Queen Carnival Committee to publish the results of its recent, raffles. So far it has been silent. Why is it afraid? The penalty for illegally holding raffles having now been paid, surely the publication of the winners names should not cause it any anxiety. It is easily seen by Mr R.*S. Black’s letter that he knows nothing about the matter when he says that every winner was advised by post. How could that be possible when people purchased tickets without giving either name or address? As an instance the Civic Queens doll (which the competitor had to name) and the “ Cinema ,f Queen’s doll and several other raffles took the same form. If the committee intended acting in the way it has done, every purchaser of tickets should have had his name and address recorded. How Mr Black is going to find the genuine winners of the raffles beats me. To me it appears that all that was wanted was the people’s money.—l am, etc., One Hundred Tickets. [The procedure adopted certainly left room for complaint especially on the part of country people who purchased chances in the competitions. Where the names and addresses were available the_ secretaries of the various Queen Committees notified successful competitors, and complete lists of the results have been displayed at various prominent places in the city. It is reported that one article only—a fireside chair —about which information is obtainable at the Town Hall, has not been claimed. — Ed. O.D.T.]
