ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

BODY FOUND IN RIVER ' (Per Limited Press Association.) HAWERA, November 27. Whilst hauling in a flounder net in the Patea River at Patea shortly before 8 o'clock this morning two small boys recovered the body of Mrs Adolph Christensen, an elderly resident of the borough. A pair of spectacles and other personal belongings of the deceased were found later on, Mrs Christensen had resided alone during the last few days in the absence of Mr Christensen at the wool sales at Auckland.

GIRL DROWNED IN RIVER iPek United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., November 27. While bathing in a pool in the Manawatu River at Ballance yesterday, Irene Mary Forrest, aged 17, whose parents reside at Palmerston North, got into difficulties and was drowned. Venturing into the current, she was in trouble and began to call out. At first it was thought she was joking, but her father perceived the true situation, and called others to help. George Grinrod, of Feilding, a young man, succeeded in gaining a hold of the girl, and had almost reached a projection on the bank when it is thought the girl became restless, and Griniod was nearly drawn under. Being practically exhausted, he was unable to retain his hold of the girl, who sank in a deep hole. The body was recovered to-day. An inquest was held this afternoon, and a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. Mr George Grinrod, of Feilding, was commended by the coroner for his rescue efforts.

CAR OVERTURNS ON ROADSIDE (Per United Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, November 27. A seven-seater six-cylinder car, driven by Miss Stein, when returning to Dannevirke after an entertainment in the country, left the road and ran up a 3ft bank and capsized. There were 10 occupants in the car, but Miss Jean Grant, of Mangahei, was the only one hurt, suffering a scalp wound. Had the car caught fire there would have been a tragedy, as the occupants were unable to get out until released.

DEATH FROM POISONING (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 27. Suffering from the effects of ponon, Edward Berry, aged 82, was admitted to the Wellington Hospital this afternoon and died two hours later. Berry was found ill in a tramway waiting shed. Nothing is known concerning his place of residence.
