The notes appearing In this paper every Tuesday morning under this heading are the Official Notes of the Otago Kennel Club. The Secretary (Whltcombe’s Chambers) will be pleased to receive notes before Saturday of each week and to pass them on to “ Breeder ” for Inclusion In the following Tuesday’s “ The Kennel.” also advertising material (For Sales, etc.) for insertion at the foot of the column.

Mr Dunn, of Dunedin, has a very promising Sealyham puppy from Opihi Princess by Mr Myers’s dog. Opihi Princess was bred by Mr Seville, of Fairlie, and is by his imported dog, Brazen Biltong. Mr Thomas Allan, of St. Kilda, has a nice litter of four smooth fox terrier puppies by W. Henderson’s Stowaway, ex Merry Peel. They look a nice even lot. Mr Alexander Begg, of Dunedin, has a fine lot of puppies by Bravel Laddie, a blue roan cocker by Homespun of Ware (imp.) ex Bay Bell, by Cburch Leigh Druson (imp.). He is so well pleased with the above litter that he is mating an unshown full-sister to Laddie this week. Mr Alfred Atkinson, of St. Kilda, has disposed of several of his Labrador puppies bv S. Geddes’e Sombre Chief ex Braevai Bridget, a good winner. One pup went to Mrs W. Brooks, of Outran,, and others to Mr Oliver, of Mosgiel, Mrs Day, of Portobello, and Dr Greenslade, of Dunedin. Mr J. E. Jones, of Dunedin, has mated the Irish setter bitch Inglestone Stella, which he purchased from Mr B. Daley. Wellington, to his winning dog, Erin Doon, by Pride of Erin ex Lorna Doom bred by Mr C. H. Kerdson, Auckland. Mr J. Petrie, of Oamaru, reports that his black cocker bitch Gipsy Avonne has whelped a litter of nine puppies -to L. Smyth’s imported dog Church Leigh Druson. , , ~ ~ , Mr L. Smyth has mated the black cocker bitch Wynsome Lady to his imported coloured cocker dog Church Leigh Stonnboy. This bitch is by Vader of Sauls (imp.) ex Papanui Guess, bred by M. W. C. Leversidge, of Christchurch. Messrs Bond Bros., of Dunedin, the well-known bulldog breeders, ape having more than their share of misfortunes. During the -week they lost a very fine bull bitch and her puppies. Miss D. Mowat, of Dunedin, has a very nice curly-coated black retriever, Which she imported recently from Australia. It is quite the best we have seen for some time. It is very pleasing to see these fine dogs making another appearance on our show benches. Mr Alexander Begg has sold to Mr W. G Lane, of Milton, a fine blue roan cocker dog pup by Stranraer Lad (ex Bon Chance). This bitch is breeding a host of good ones. Mr Begg sent his black cocker dog Bay Bosum. by Church Leigh Druson (imp.) ex Bon Chance, up to the Wanganui Show and won two firsts with him. This dog has done a ‘fair share of winning since he was first benched in Dunedin in June.

Mr W. Blagdon, of Dunedin, who has again come into the fancy, has bred a nice litter of wire fox terrier pups by Mr J 3. Hayne’s Best Blend, by Compound of Nots (imp.) ex Jetta, by Notts Summit, also be Compound of Notts. Bred as they are, these pups should turn out good, being line-bred to the famous of Notts blood, bred by the Duchess of Newcastle. Dr Smith Morton, of Oamaru, has during the last few years built up a very fine kennel of Scottish terriers, having carried all before him at our southern shows. During a recent trip to Oamaru I was invited to bis home to have a look around the kennels. He has a fine range of accommodation, and the dogs live under ideal conditions, having large covered-in kennels divided up in different compartments with plenty of room; in fact, large enough to stable horses in. The inmates are all in capital condition, and comprise the fine dog Ornsay Barty. Dr Morton’s latest importation from Scotland, bred by Robert Chapman, Glenborg, Scotland, and several imported bitches, including Ornsay Posie and Cumbrae Kimmer, which are rearing very nice litters to Barty. Judged by the quality of the little ones, this dog is going to give the Scottish terrier fancy a big lift up in New Zealand. The next to be inspected were Mrs Morton’s West Highland white terriers, and they also were looking very well. This lady has several very likely looking young ones coming along nicely. After partaking of our host’s hospitality we returned to Dunedin feeling that the dog fancy is well worth while.

The Otago Kennel Club held a successful ribbon parade on Tuesday night last at the Brydone Hall. The club members had gone to a lot of trouble in decorating the hall, and the arrangements, as usual, were carried through without a hitch. The night turned out to be very cold, and consequently the attendance was somewhat affected. The ribbon for best dog or bitch in the parade was awarded to Mr F. Zaffer’s Snow Chief. This dog was as usual put down in beautiful condition.
