ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
OTAGO DISTRICT COMPETITIONS The annual competitions of- the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Otago District, were held in the Drill Hall on kaUirday afternoon. Lieut.-colonel K. I'ulton was officer in charge, and was assisted by Senior District Officer Belworthy and District Officer Lieut.-colonel P. H. Morey. Miss Harborow, district secretary, was in charge of returns. Twenty-four teams —15 men s and nine women’s —took part, and each event was keenly contested. Each year an effort is made to make these competitions more interesting, and this year saw a. decided improvement in the home nursing contest. It took the form of an influenza case in a private home, and compear tors were required to reduce the temperature of the patient, which stood at 103 deg. Although coming ns a complete surprise to them, the competitors put up a good fight, and the results were remarkably close. Again the special cup for firstaid and transport created considerable interest. This competition is the only one open to officers, and consequently a higher standard is demanded.
