A BRUTAL ATTACK
GARAGE ATTENDANT KNOCKED DOWN DISPUTE CONCERNING PAYMENT. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, November 27. A brutal assault was committed on John Barton Elliott, a garage attendant at the Morris Petrol Station, Hamilton, last evening, allegedly by motorists who had called for benzine. Elliott, a married man, aged 21, w;as the sole person on duty when two men in a car pulled up and ordered benzine. As a result of trouble over payment, Elliott said he went to telephone to his employer, who resides at another station, a mile away. His employer, Mr Morris, heard Elliott speak; then came a dull thud, and he could get no reply. He rang the police and a neighbour, who went to the scene, and found Elliott unconscious on the floor. He was removed to the Waikato Hospital, and his injuries are now regarded as not serious. The injuries were allegedly inflicted by a piece of wood two feet long and one and a-balf inches square. A sum of £ls in the till was not disturbed.
