The second round of the Otago Golf Club championship was played on Balmacewen links on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. ine standard of golf at Balmacewen is of such a high order at present thatthe ; four matches in this round promise to. be close, and in this respect the two matches in the top half of the draw provide good games. The New Zealand amateur champipn, is. V. Wright struck T. 8., Ferguson in. his best form, and had to admit defeat by 2 and I. The match, between A. G. Sime and J. A- Scouler (the present, holder of the club championship) was all square ”, on the completion of the round and Sime won at the. nineteenth W. G. Wight proved too strong for J. R. Laidlaw, the match finishing on the thirteenth green, levying Wight 6 up and 5 to plajr, K. Ross accounted for A. C. Begg by A The second round of the Balmacewen Cup was also played, the matches resulting as follows:—G. L. Tapley beat i. C. Tyrrell 2 and 1, W. S. Stewart beat J. Mawson 2 and. 1, C.,W. Glover beat J. Walls 4 and 3, C. G. Reeves beat A. Orr 6 and 5, R. D. B. Paterson beat H. Smith at the nineteenth, S. G. Pans beat P. S. Anderson 1 up, A. Gill beat G. B. P. Wilson 2 up. 1 , ST. CLAIR CLUB. Conditions were excellent on Saturday afternoon for the four-ball Bogey Handicap which was won by H. A. Gamble and C. J. Wood with a score of 9 up. Other scores wore as follows:—D. C.TBennie and W. N. Satterthwaite 6 up, H. F. Sincock nnd A. Smellic 6 up, F. Duthie and A. B. Watt 5 up, J. E. Matheson and J. A. Templeton 5 up, J. Redmond and partner 5 up. ’ AN EXHIBITION MATCH. (Pee United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, November 26. Four of New Zealand’s leading golfers —Miss Oliver Kay (Dunedin), B. V. ; Wright (Dunedin). Dr L Ross (Dunedin), and B. J. Smith, jun., now professional to the Invercargill Club, took part in an exhibition golf match on the Otatara course this afternoon, a large gallery witnessing some first-class golf. Miss Kay partnered with Smith - , and playing from' the men’s tees, was in receipt ot five strokes from Wright and Dr Ross. The match was keenly contested, and was won by Miss Kay and* Smith, I up. Smith E’ d magnificently over the last nine , getting seven 4’s and two 3’s. The approximate scores were: Smith 75, Miss Kay 76, Wright 77, Ross 78.
