FIRES
OUTBREAK AT HUNTLY THREE HOUSES DESTROYED (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, November 25. Three houses adjoining at Farrell’s crossing, about half a mile south of Huntly, were totally destroyed by fire shortly before midnight last night. The dwellings, each of five rooms, were occupied by Messrs A. Black, A. Harlock and H. Gainsford. The fire broke out in the centre of the house occupied by Mr Harlock, and the flames spread so rapidly that the occupants, including children, had to make a hasty retreat in their night attire. There is no fire brigade in Huntly, and the bucket brigade was unable to check the flames. TWO HOUSES DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, November 25. - Two houses owned by the Mines Department were burnt at Rewanui at noon to-day. One was unoccupied and the other was occupied by Mr William Quate. Nothing was saved. FIRE IN FLOUR MILL. The fire brigade turned out at 5.20 a.m. on Saturday in response to a call from Messrs Hall and Co.’s flour mill in Wain street, where a wooden chute was damaged. The cause of the fire is unknown.
