KEENNESS OF CONTEST MANY “TOMBSTONE VOTES.” NEW YORK, November 2. “Watch out for tombstone votes!” is becoming a mayoralty slogan as election day draws near. It is revealed that the names of at least five men who have been dead from six months to 50 years are appearing among the lists of sponsors of various candidates. The race is so .keen now that efforts are being made to utilise every political stratagem. There is a concerted move to bring “ floaters ” into the city for the purposes of voting. The prosecuting agencies are overtaxed in investigating alleged frauds. The police are reporting thousands of suspected cases. Many arrests have already been made.
