GUIDE EILEEN RETIRES
LONG CAREER AT ROTORUA. An interesting function was held on Thursday evening in the Polmtu kiosk, Whakarewarewa, when the Maori guides of Whakarewarewa gave a farewell evening to Guide Eileen prior to her departure for Levin, wehre she will rejoin her people after an absence of 22 years. Guide Eileen is one of the famous twin guides of Whakarewarewa, and during her 22 years there has conducted many notable visitors from overseas round the thermal sights. She is now retiring from guiding, and will enjoy a well-earned rest. She bus been actively engaged in Maori concert work all the time she has been at Rotorua, and is a-well-knowu performer on the concert stage. On several occasions she toured Australia with Maori concert parties. During the evening Guide Bella, on behalf of the Whakarewarewa guides, presented the guest of the evening with a handsome china tea set. Guide Eileen left Rotorua for Levin on Friday morning. Practically all the Maori people of Whakarewarewa were present to wish her farewell.
