ATTEMPTED FRAUD

BURNING OF MOTOR CAR (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON", November 3. Found guilty recently of attempting to obtain £IOO by false pretences from an insurance company in connection with the burning of his motor car, John Phillips came before the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) to-day, and was ordered to come up for sentence within 18 months if called upon. His Honor said if it had appeared that the prisoner was responsible for the firing of the car and the removal of the parts he would not have hesitated to pass a sentence of imprisonment. The costs of the case amounted to £35, and the prisoner was ordered to pay this amount in 12 monthly instalments.
