HELPING WHEAT GROWERS. THE GOVERNMENT APPROACHED. CANBERRA, November 2. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) informed a deputation that the Government realised the necessity of assisting the wheat industry, and the imposition of a sales tax on flour might be the best way of helping wheat growers. (Received Nov. 2, at 11.30 p.m;) The House of Representatives further adjourned for a week Mr Ward s motion to summon the printer and publisher of the Sunday Sun to the Bar of the House to answer a charge of contempt arising out of the Sun’s criticism of members for increasing their own salaries. CONDUCT OF MISSIONS. SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS.

CANBERRA, November 2. (Received Nov. 2, at 11.45 p.m.) The Federal Government has agreed to investigate charges levelled against the administration of the Roper River Mission of brutal ill-treatment of the aborigines. Mr Nelson, who is the Northern Territory representative in Parliament, outlined the charges against a former superintendent, since dismissed, with respect to brutality and immorality concerning native women, resulting in a keen desire by natives for revenge, and general dissatisfaction with the manner in which aboriginal missions in the Gulf territory are conducted.
