(Per Cnited. Press association.! WELLINGTON, November 1. An unusual point of view was presented by a defendant to a charge of having an unlicensed radio set when a case came before Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., at the Lower Hutt to-day. The defendant wrote a letter, and the magistrate, after reading it, said the charge was regarded by the defendant as a summons for the recovery of a debt. Persons were required to obtain licenses before sets were operating. In imposing a fine of £l, Mr Barton asked for publication of the facts of the case. The opinion that all trampers should join properly-constituted dubs in order to be trained in mountain and bush craft by experienced enthusiasts was expressed by Mr J. A. Baine, honorary forest ranger appointed by the Commissioner of State Forests, in giving his views as an expert at an inquest concerning the death of Patrick Alexander Devon, who lost his life as the result of a fall on the Orongorongo Hills on Sunday, October 22. The coroner (Mr Gilbertson) returned a verdict of accidental death. He said there was no evidence that the boy was careless in any way or that he was. undertaking an undue risk. BLENHEIM, November 1.
