PROFESSIONAL NOTES RALSTON'S FINE RECORD To have been in the North Island just over a week and to have won one race, secured two fastest times, and broken two records is the performance of A. Ralston, Dunedin’s 23-year-old champion, who came home oft - scratch in 4hr 22min 57sec in the 100 Mile New Zealand Championship Around Mount. Egmont. He gained fastest time, breaking the existing record of L. Hill, of Christchurch,, the Australian and New Zealand champion, by 4min 35see. On the previous Saturday, in the Cambridge-Auekland 83 Mile North Island Professional Championship, riding in heavy rain, Ralston collected the title, smashing the existing record, established in 1929, by 15min. Ralston has won £lB in cash, two cups to the value of £65, two gold medals, two blue ribands, a medallion, and a cycle—in all amounting to the value of £IOO. These performances prove him the fastest road cyclist in New Zealand up to 100 miles. Last year he held the 50 and 100 Mile Otago Championship, and the Southland 50 Mile Championship. He is also a fine track rider, having won the New Zealand Two Miles Champion of Champions, hold at New Plymouth two years ago, "The public will have an opportunity of seeing this rider next Wednesday evening at the Caledonian Grounds, where the Otago Athletic and Cycling Club will hold its first professional evening meeting for the season. He will be in competition with such riders as J. Brown, A. Hay, C. Hanson, D. O’Brien, and T. Brosnau, who will certainly extend him. At the Otautan sports, A. Hay showed his worth oh the grass by _ securing a first and a second place riding in good company. J. Kennedy rode a great race from scratch to get fastest time and collect the Southland 50 Mile Championship. He is one of Otago’s crack 50-milers. J. Hogg, a first-year professional, rode well to get fourth place in the Southland 50 Miles Championship. He ia a youthful rider of good quality, of whom much is expected.
