Despite a high and treacherous wind, an Australian, John Cobb, driving a monster Napier-Railton car at Brooklands, lowered the world’s records for the standing start kilometre at 88.14 miles per hour, and the standing start mile at ]O2 52 At the end of the mile Cobb was travelling at nearly 150 miles per hour, which is dangerously close to Brooklands track safety limit.
