OPHIR NOTES
(From Ooe Own Correspondent.) OPHIE, November 1. BLACKS* SCHOOL EEUNION. On Monday, evening a special meeting was held in the Ophir Hall for the purpose of deciding definitely the advisability of calling a reunion in connection with Blacks School. Mr Charles Parnell presided, and there were also present ex-pupils from Ida Valley, Poolburn, Matakanui, Omakau and Ophir. The secretary reported having sent out 35 letters to ex-pupils, the being, in addition to , those present, letters from six others who were unable to be present, but who all favoured a reunion and offered their support'. On the motion of Mr W. F. Dundasa, it was resolved—“ That a jubilee reunion of the Blacks School teachers and ex-pupils be held during the Easter holidays, commencing on Easter Saturday, 1034.” With the approval of the meeting, Mr Parnell, who suggested that an ex-pupit should be appointed, withdrew from the chairmanship, and Messrs W. F. Dundass, and W. Pitches were respectively appointed chairman and vice-chairman. Messrs C. Parnell and J. J. Stafford were appointed joint secretaries, and: a committee was elected, consisting of Mesdames J. M'Knight, J. Clouston and W. F. Dundass, Misses Corrigall, Stafford, and Service, with Messrs A. M'Kellar, FJ Wilson, C. White, F. Flannery, M. M'Donald, J. M'Knight and H. J. Sandle, with power to' add to their number. It was agreed to hold committee meetings weekly. ; " CEICKET. With the exception of about half an hour before stumps were drawn, when the light was bad, last Saturday was a perfect afternoon for the' opening cricket' match of the season—Alexandra . v. Ophir—the first local cricket match j after a lapse of about ten years. Alex- ! andra won the toss and elected to bat, ! making the creditable score of 100 runs t for six wickets. The local men had ! made 45 runs when time was called, and the match resulted in a draw. The principal scorers for Alexandra were J. Cowie (40), Munro (35), Mount (28), and Kinnaird (24), and for Ophir N. White (12) abd J. Hurdley (12). BowL ing for Alexandra Cowie took five,wickets for 9 runs and Gourlay two for 17. For Ophir Taylor (throe "for 35) secured the best average.
