' IT (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, November I. RAINFALL. The rainfall for October amounted to l.CGin for seven days’ rain, somewhat below last year’s October total of 2.44 in. During October, 1931, 1.07 in fell. The total for the year so far is 15.C4in, compared with 25.98 in for the same period last year, LAWN TENNIS. The Palmerston District High School held its annual Mixed Doubles lawn tennis tournament yesterday. In the finals J. F. Adams and Miss P. Thompson beat I. Snook and Miss E. Philip by 40 points to 29. ART CROCHET RAFFLE. A raffle, licensed under section 42 of the Gaming Act, 1908, for two art needlework luncheon cloths, and conducted by Mrs G. A. Wills (Palmerston) was drawn by the Mayor (Mr W. B. Galloway) last evening under police supervision. The winning ticket, No. 1499, w’as held by Mr R. Notnian (Oamaru), and T. E. Price (Cromwell) won the second prize with ticket No, 2091. EASTERN DISTRICT SUB-UNION. A meeting of the Eastern District Rugby Football Sub-union was held in the Athenaeum last night, Mr R. M'lntosh presiding over a fair attendance. Matters pertaining to the welfare of football in the district were discussed at length, and it was left in the hands of Mr D. J. Ross to interview the Palmerston and Waihemo County Agricultural and Pastbral Association in connection with the lease of the society’s ground for future football games.
