£700,000 FROM WRECK

Another consignment of treasure from the liner Egypt, which foundered off Ushant with more than £1,000,000 of gold, was lately taken into Plymouth by the salvage ship Artiglio. It consisted of 27 sold bars of various sizes, 214- in gots of silver, and a quantity of sovereigns, making a total value for the consignment of about £57,000. Over £700,000 of gold bullion has been salved from the wreck, and it is believed that there are still in the Egypt’s strong room at least a ton of gold in bars, 270 bars of silver, and 50.000 gold sovereigns.
