DAM AT MUIR’S FLAT

CONSTRUCTION APPROVED ' " "" J WATER FOR IRRIGATION AND MINING (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, October 31. Cabinet has approved of the construction of a dam at Muir’s Flat in Conray’s Creek. Advice to this effect was received from the Minister of Public Works (Mr J. Bitchener) to-day by Mr Bodkin, member for the district. It is understood that the cost of the dam will be approximtely £IO,OOO. Work will be proceeded with as soon as the lower Manorburn dam has been com’pleted and will provide employment for from 30 to 40 married men.

In an interview to-night Mr Bodkin said that tlie dam would be of great value for irrigation purposes and would also provide water for mining purposes on the quartz drift deposit in the vicinity of Conroy’s Creek. The work was being undertaken upon the recommendation of the Vincent County Mining Executive, he added, and was also strongly supported by the Mines Department.
