SPORTS QUEEN COMMITTEE
, FINAL MEETING The final meeting of the Sports Queen Committee was held last night, when Mr A. Burt presided over a full attendance. Moving the adoption of the balance sheet, the chairman said they were sorry that their, queen had not been higher up on the poll, but they had the satisfaction of knowing that their helpers had worked very well. Their disappointing position was due in a large measure to the fact that the different sports bodies of the city had.:, not rallied round the committee in the way, they should have. One thing that impressed one about the balance sheet, he said, was the amount of the expenses, which were much higher than they should have been; in fact, the expenditure amounted to about one-third of the sum paid in to the Central Executive. Nevertheless, good work was done, and he wished particularly to thank the ladies who had laboured so well in the cause of the Sports Queen. —The balance sheet was adopted. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs R. Hudson, for acting as queen; to Mrs G. A. Nelson, for her work in connection with the committee’s shop, and to the executive members of the committee for the manner in which they had conducted the campaign; It was reported that the winners of the Golden Apple competition had not come forward, and it was decided that if the prizes had not been claimed after advertising the money be placed in trust, to be paid over to the Unemployment Fund after a certain time had elapsed. Mrs Hudson, the Sports Queen, expressed her thanks to all who had assisted her in the recent carnival, and said she thought that, considering the small number of helpers, very fine results had been obtained.
