ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

The Dunedin Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade reports a very successful year, the attendance being well up to standard. During the year very interesting and instructive lectures were given by Dr Marion Whyte, Sister Kirkpatrick, Sister Smith, Dr Roland Fulton, and the divisional surgeon, Dr John FulThe annual inspection of the Hillside Ambulance Cadets took place last Thursday when 33 cadets were on parade. The inspection was conducted by the assistant commissioner (Dr R. Fulton), the senior district superintendent (T. Bclworthy), and the district officer (Miss E. M. Harborow). There were also present Corps Superintendent J. C. White, Corps Officer J, G. Ross, and Cadet Officer D. M'Lean, of the Dunedin Ambulance Cadets. Prior to the inspection eight teams competed in the half-yearly competition for the Cadet Cup, and Sergeant Honeybone’s team and Corporal Mosley’s tied for first place with 10G points each. In the competition for the Fox Junior Shield, judged by the donor, Mrs Fox. Corporal Mosley won with a possible of 30 points. Sergeant Honeybone and Cadet Miller being second with 20J each. The standard of work in the roller bandaging was exceptionally high, and reflected great credit on the boys. The district superintendent, in presenting the trophies, congratulated all on their work, and wished them every success in the future. Prior to leaving the visitors were entertained with a Maori haka by the division. Teams are now being picked for the district competitions, which take place in a month’s time. Kaitangata now has an ambulance division, and, as an illustration of the keenness displayed in the work, two members, Messrs Rourke and Tyler, visited Dunedin last Saturday to watch the ambulance competitions for the Scout troops of Dunedin, which are conducted by the St. John Ambulance Brigade. This year the venue was the Ocean Beach Scout Hall, and five teams competed. The visitors expressed their determination to visit Dunedin again on the occasion of the district competitions, and, no doubt, if not this year, Kaitangata will be entering for the various events. The following appointments have been approved in the St. John Ambulance Brigade: —Hillside Cadet Ambulance Division —William A. Honeybone to sergeant, James D. Petheriek and Thomas J. Mosley to corporal.
