The rats are in for a lean time in the United States. Students at the Massachusetts Technical School have built a rat-trap consisting of a midget “ cannon ” and photoelectric cell rigged up in such a way that rats are put “on the spot ” as they amble down their favourite pathway and intercept the light beam. For economy’s sake, the “ cannon ball ” is tied to a string and operated on the principle of the popgun.
