The present ration is made up in darklooking slabs containing 60 per cent, of chocolate, j It is not as palatable as it could be, / for it is mixed with' ingredients to diseburage the soldier from eating it except when he is really in need of food. The new ration is in the experimental stage, being built upon a scientific basis to satisfy the demands of the body, while weighing as little as possible. The Army Medical College has tested it for food values, and the soldiers were (o test it under service conditions during the training season. As constituted' at present the ration has foods in the following percentage:— Pea flour 29, cocoa butter 25, sugar 25, cocoa powder 10, beef powder 10, and oil of lemon 1. The new ration weighs jib, as compared with 21b for the old one. "
