THE FIRE TRIAL
AMERICAN LAWYER’S BELIEF ACCUSED INNOCENT. BERLIN, October 29. Mr Garfield Hays, an American lawyer, has issued a statement that Torgler, Dimitroff, Popoff, and Taneff are innocent of implication in the Reichstag building fire. “ I heard the evidence in London, which refugees dare not give here,” he states. “I also heard at Leipzig and Berlin practically all the important evidence regarding identification, which was contradictory and preposterous. It convinced me that no impartial person thinks them guilty.”
