French murder trial
. ’ STARTLING EVIDENCE AIX-EN-PROVENCE, October 29. Further startling evidence at the sulphuric acid trial included that of a chemist employed in a Marseilles pharmacy. He declared that in 1925 a man named Garrotte, who had been a lover of Philomene, had access to poison, of which sufficient to kill 50 persons was once found missing. The prosecution produced documents allegedly signed by Deltrcuil (Katherine’s former husband) proving that Deltrcuil was a chemical inventor and Was able. to. obtain various acids. Katherine’s counsel declared that the documents wete forgeries. The prosecution also read lett-rs from the mother of the girl Herbin revealing that three months after the consumptive’s,, death Katherine wrote, ostensibly on'behalf of Herbin, stating; “ Our dear little friend is unable to write owing to an injured finger.” Katherine declared that Sarrett dictated the letters.
Sarrett, a lawyer, and Katherine and Philomene Schmidt are on trial for allegedly being concerned in a number of murders in order to secure the insurance money.
