THE INDUSTRIOUS ANT
“ADDICTED TO DRINK.” (From Oor Own Correspondent.) LONDON, September 13. According to Professor Julian Huxley, sedation, said that if man went to the vised the sluggard to go to the ant for an example of industry. Professor _ Huxley, who wag speakin<' before the British Association, saaid that if man wont to the ants he would find-a rather vicious state of affairs. “Ants, like men, have many vices. They are addicted to drink. They have a mania for the sweet secretions of a certain type of beetle, and to obtain it they will go to any length. They will sacrifice their own offspring,” he declared. Ants began their work at birth, but they would . never overcome mankind. “ The evolution of the ant ended tens of millions of years ago,” he said, “but the evolution of man has only just started.” Father A. English, preaching at the Church of the Holy Cross, on Sunday, replied to the views expressed by Professor Huxley. At the end of his lecture, said the preacher, the professor stated that the ant started its life’s work the moment it was born, which proves that Solomon knew exactly what he wanted to know about ants. He said that they were an example of industry to the human race, and that is exactly what they are.
