Roulette, perhaps the most famous of all games of chance, is now to he permitted, though with a revised sot of rules, at a number of French casinos. It is a game which has produced many “ systems,” whose inventors were perfectly certain they could heat flic hank. Most of these systems have been played on the even chances and have been based on the idea that, if the stake was increased after each loss, the gambler was hound to show a profit in the end. Actually, however, the majority of the people who tried a system found that their capital was exhausted before they reached the desired point, or that their profit, after a period of play, was not worth the trouble they had taken. The most successful system was that of a Yorkshire mechanic, who discovered that, because of flaws in some of the wheels at Monte Carlo, certain numbers recurred more frequently than others. He and his associates played on these numbers and Avon over £IOO,OOO before, finally, a neAV set of Avheels Avas introduced.
