You are sure to be troubled by mosquitoes and midges on your holiday, or on the days and evenings you spend out of doors. Protect yourself by annointmg your skin with a mixture of oil of-laven-der, one part, and oil of citronella, five parts. A drop of geranium oil, sprinkled behind the ears or at the edge of the neck, is also distasteful to these insects. If you would care to try a still more potent recipe, here it is:—Mix three add a-half drachms of the oil of citronella with an equal , amount in weight of spirits of camphor and half us much oil of cedar, and smear some of the mixture on the face or hands before going out. . i 1 Look after your feet and ankles—th.ese are particularly vulnerable spots. Before putting your stockings oh, sponge the flesh with a solution of Epsom salts, using one .dessertspoonful of the salts to two pints of water, or, failing this, with a weak hydrogen of peroxide lotion. Sprinkle inside the stocking a mixture of violet powder and White pepper. When you have been bitten by any insect and fail to recall the specific remedy you cannot do better than dab the sting with tincture of iodine. It will be better still if you have an iodine add glycerine paint handv. When you are unaware of the nature of the sting a'safe antidote is a solution of bicarbonate of soda. For a bee sting suitable applications are ammonia, washing soda, or the blue bag, but a wasp sting is best treated by vinegar or a raw onion. .... „ By carrying a little carbonate of ammonia in your handbag you will be forearmed against bee stings, and even against mosquito, midge, spider, and jelly nsn stings. A small phial of vinegar for the wasp and the iodme-for general antiseptic purposes will complete your emergency outfit. . , „ , The itching of a sting can be allayed by a weak carbolic lotion.
