“CRANKS”

TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —To his list of “ cranks ” your correspondent “ Queer Fellow ” could add a fourth, viz.: “Letters to the Editor cranks ” who talk and write a lot of nonsense, as no well-learned or well-read man would do. Having made this addition, “Queer Fellow” could then take up a position therein, as I am certain he possesses the necessary qualifications. Before doing so, however, perhaps he will tell us from what source he obtained the information that Mr Lloyd George and his Liberal Party “ were voted out ” because of the rash and impossible promises made by the Socialists. I always understood that Mr Lloyd George and his party were voted out because of their own rash and impossible promises, and I seem to remember the slogans “ Homes for Heroes ” and “ Hang the Kaiser.” Perhaps “ Queer Fellow ” will also qualify his statement that the depression ‘ started in England when the Socialists were in power. ’ I seem to remember that the combined opposition, Conservatives, Liberals, and others, was stronger numerically ( than the Socialists, thereby placing the Socialist Government in the peculiar position of holding office without, possessing the “ power " to carry out election promises.—I am, etc., October 11. Caurnib. .
