RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Returned Soldiers' Association was held in the club rooms last evening, the president (Mr A. J! Gordon) in the chair. Others present were Messrs G. T. Thomas, A. S. Falconer, A. M'Hutchon, W. F. Forrester, J. S. Skinner, J. H. Ferens, H. L. Paterson, A. C. Laing, P. S. Anderson, and G. H. Ferens (secretary). Before the commencement of the business of the meeting the chairman referred to the death during the week of one of the "Old Contemptibles," Corporal C. C. Gullan, to the memory of whom the usual tribute was. paid. Accounts totalling £3O 15s 6d were passed for payment. Ten nominations for membership were received and approved, and one resignai tion was accepted. The secretary reported that the Dunedin Association still had a substantial lead in the membership competition with the Christchurch Association, the figures being as follows: Dunedin 1780, Christchurch 1615. In presenting the Hospital Committee's report the secretary paid a tribute to the services of Sister Jeffrey, who undertook periodical visits to returned soldiers in outlying hospitals, a form of service which was greatly appreciated by the executive. After some discussion it was decided to make a contribution of £3 3s towards the Walton-on-Thames Memorial Fund. . Tentative arrangements were made with respect to the proposed # visit of Mr S. G. Morrison, the Dominion secretary of the association. The question of establishing a lending library'was further discussed, but it was finally decided that the matter should be held over in the meantime. It was decided to hold a "free and easy " night in the club rooms to-morrow night.
